Konig Galerie Chapel, Berlin - Samsung "The Wall" in the exhibition "BASIM MAGDY - RENEGADE DREAMS HANGING FROM THE CLOUDS"

KONIG GALERIE presented the first solo exhibition by Basim Magdy from October 30 to December 18, 2020 at St. Agnes. In the chapel, eight canvas works and one video installation were shown. For the presentation, Mediativ AG provided Samsung The Wall.

In Basim Magdy's film NEW ACID, animals communicate with each other via SMS chat, much like humans do. Lemurs plan their exit from the animal world, a sea lion reflects on the immaterial nature of bitcoins, and nearby a hippopotamus monologues about weight complexes. What initially appears humorous and trivial quickly reveals access to sharper themes: nationalism, racism, and social hierarchies. Basim Magdy aims to make our common communication structures visible while also showing that all forms of society, however accessible they may seem, are governed by similar structures and power relations.
